not quite

The other day at work my boss and I were discussing tattoos, graffiti and tv shows when she happened to mention that she saw a great piece of stencil graffiti behind the local bar The Underground. Well that's cool and all but I got really excited about it because she said it was of Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law! For those of you who don't know, Harvey is a character from a very funny animated tv show that features lots of old Hannah Barbara characters who get into trouble and need a lawyer. Needless to say I really wanted to see the graffiti, so I went out yesterday after work and looked for it. Unfortunately I couldn't find it. Not even a spot where it might have been. I did find some other graffiti though of a coat of arms that was pretty sweet and a guy with wings. I wonder if that's what my boss was referring to? If it was, the only similarity to Harvey is that the guy has wings.

bug zapper

I found this driving around today back by the old apartment that I lived in two summers ago. It's a shame they're all condemned now.

Biafra in Blacksburg

I took this pic a while back and have been doing some surfing to figure out what it's all about. Turns out Biafra Inc. is an international street art movement that primarily uses stickers and posters, and the occasional stencil. You can check out more photos of Biafra's stuff here or check out the myspace page. I'm really impressed by the amount of ground this guy has covered and the different methods he's used to push Biafra into the lime light of the underground culture. As a side note, the master-mind behind all this is only 19 years old. I expect I'll see a lot more stuff like this over in Europe.

stencil love in roanoke

So classes are done but I'm still working the t-shirt game. Yesterday I drove out to Roanoke to pick up my latest set of shirts from my friend Greg who owns the print shop Press Press Merch. When I was there I noticed on the side of his building these two stencil pieces. I really like the scuba one, mostly because it has bubbles.

sweet spot

There's this little alleyway between the UPS store and The Chocolate Spike that leads onto main st. where Mish Mish is. Anyways, today on my way to Mish we found this little jem of what used to be a UPS sticker and is now much better as a Johnny Cupcakes sticker. Yeah, 2 plash +, I totally called you out. Keep doin what you do but make it original. Blacksburg could use some more sticker graffiti.

Eat Live Squirrels

Is there a graffiti culture in Blacksburg? Yes. I was actually surprised by how much graffiti there is here once I started looking for it. None of it is as large as some of the pieces that you might find in a big city but some of them are rather humorous.

Tagging in Savannah

These first two are stencil graffiti, so I saw them around in a couple places. The yellow one is on the side of a DHL drop box.

I found this Pac-Man inside a pizza joint called Vinny Van Gogo's, right behind the hotel.
